To secure the newel post on the floor, attach a metal mounting plate to its base. The metal mounting plate should be slightly larger than the base of the post and have four corner screw-holes which allow the post to be attached to the floor. Drill a hole in the middle of the post at the bottom. Make sure that the plate is square with the post , drill holes into the four corner holes, and screw. U should be able to do this easily.
I Need some advice on how to fit the bottom newel base , as there was not an existing newel base in place. Install the base trim that came with your newel post. Match the mitred corners up at the corners of the post to create a square ring of trim, covering the mounting screw holes. Use at least three nails in each piece.

On the face of the newel mark a centre line, then measure 124mm down from the top of the newel base using a25mm flat bit, drill a countersink hole, then using a 20mm drill bit, drill a hole past the centre of the newel base (Drawing )(coming soon).
