Jb weld thread repair

My limited experience with JB Weld and thread repair has taught me the stuff is too crunchy to really accept a tap. Has anyone had luck repairing stripped threads with jb weld ? I accidentally used my electric driver on the bolt that holds my motorcycle tank. One of my petcock cover screw threads (in the body of the bowl) has stripped.


Anyone have luck with JB Weld on this blind tapped hole?

Drill out with smaller with right size drill just under thread size of bolt an tap with bolt size thread inside of nut. I had a thermostat housing that was corroded to shit, but solid. Has anybody used both j-b weld AND either of the msr metal repair products? The MSR sticks (for both steel and aluminum) are on the counter at my local Suzy dealer. Can I smear JB Weld on the bolt and some in the hole and thread it in and hope for the best (as I plan to get rid of the car before another belt tensioner is needed) or would that not even work? A rebuilder who regularly used Moglice for this repair said he thought the JB Weld would probably work, so I tried it and it did. Wait until the pipe stays dry after you wipe it. The thread stripped out and the bolt wouldn’t work well enough to trust it, so I filled it up with JB Weld and installed the bolt. It worked well enough for me to forget about it.


I sure hope it hangs in there. Will need a ~inch extension to use a tap wrench (and damn are they expensive). The antenna part threads are ok because it is stainless steel, while the ball part is some type of pot metal, primarily zinc.


Clean it, sand it to provide a key, put down a layer of JB , layer of mesh embedded in the JB , cover the mesh with another layer of JB. Of course all of that was prefaced with the cautions and conditions of this being a temporary repair to just get it home to be fixed. So I went to change out my bad thermostat today only to realize that the lower bolt that holds the housing was stripped out and a helicoil was used to repair the threads. If not, buy a high speed steel plug tap of original size, and tap carefully all the way to the bottom in stages, cleaning chips alternately. A vertical mill and machine shop will be on the docket as soon as I exhaust all of my means. Do you have an opinion on extracting the. The window glass came out of the clips that hold it to the regulator. I drilled spaced holes through each.

This is the place for a Helicoil, or equivalent. Anyone know which offers more of a long term repair ? JB Weld is great, but your cylinder head is really not the place for it. Make sure to use the regular stuff, not the kwik as its not as strong.
